Motor Neurone disease
14 Answers
I have had some bad news today about a friend of ours, She is 59 years old and recently found it difficult to hold things a jar, a cup etc. After tests the hospital has diagnosed motor neurone disease. They have given her 6 -12 months to live. I am so upset for her, her step daughter used to be a carer and tells me it is an awful death. I hope she doesn't suffer too much.

The lady I looked after was about the same age and I nursed her through all the stages till the end . It got to a point that she would not have anyone else and I did nights with her nearer the end. She got to be more of a friend than a patient. I had to do a board for her and she used to point to the letters to spell out what she meant. Yes it so sad and a horrible thing to watch someone go downhill .After she was diagnosed she did live for nearly 3 years but it was no quality of life.
It sounds horrendous. she is such a bubbly busy person, 13 years younger than her husband. She has kept him on his toes so to speak, his daughter imagined that the stepmother would be caring for him in his old age, it looks like it will be the other way around. Atm she is keeping busy gardening, walking trying to act normal, We were on holiday at the same time as them at the New Year and she seemed OK then.
There are some really cruel illnesses aren't there, terrible things people have to go through and their families just have watch on helpless. I am so sorry to hear about your friend gran...can't imagine what she, her family and your goodself must be feeling with the news. Thinking of you all, such a shame people have to suffer like they do.
My Aunt had this about 30 years ago, at first the family thought she was drunk as she kept slurring her words. If I remember rightly she couldn't speak towards the end but would use a typewriter to converse. I have no recollection of her death being awful, surely things have advanced now? Awful news, my thoughts are with you, Wendyxx
Gran, I am so very very sorry to hear this. I used to work with a chap who died from this, in his mid-forties. I am sure medical science has progressed since then, but it is still a horrible condition - your mind knows what is happening, which must be dreadful to live with. Praying for your friend and her family and friends ♥
