Hi, Can someone tell me if a newsagent or similar shop would be allowed to see Royal Mail stamps for more than their cover price - ie I have just bought 12 first class stamps which should have cost me £0.46 each at £0.48p. I didnt realise this until I had left the shop or I would have gone to the Post Office. Thank you.

Don't know about that, but you can buy them at LESS than the cover price at Costco...
If a retailer has a contract with Royal Mail to buy stamps, the retailer will benefit from a small discount, but is then prohibited by the terms of the contract from selling the stamps at above face value. On the other hand, if a retailer simply goes to a Post Office and buys stamps over the counter, the retailer can then re-sell the stamps for any amount he cares to charge.
they shouldn't be able to charge you more, but i have been in the past, and made a fuss about it to the shop when i realised

That response from Royal Mail at the end of Buenchico's link only applies to retailers who are contracted to obtain their stamps directly from Royal Mail. As I said, if the retailer simply buys them over the Post Office counter for re-sale, he can charge what he likes.
