I Hate My Cucking Fat Today.

Got into bed at 12.30 ish this morning with my book and immediately smelled a not very nice smell. Then realised my 18 year old cat had peed on my beautiful one week old £200 bedspread. Yanked off the rest of the bedding and put it in washing machine but the pee had gone right through to my mattress. I've had my mattress for about 5 years and it was immaculate; now its got a massive stain in the middle of it. I turned it over as there was nothing else I could do but I suppose it's ruined now? This is the first time Maggie has done this but at 18 it probably won't be the last, so I suppose I might as well hang on to the mattress for a bit longer(OMG unless it starts stinking). What can I do? And the second problem is my beautiful bedspread which is dry clean only. Trouble is the lady at the cleaners says sometimes the stain will become compounded if dry cleaned so should I risk washing it? And the cause of all this is curled up fast asleep on my bed. Arrrrgggg! Help!

Glad you can see the lighter side of it, ladybirder! Poor old puss - she's obviously more precious to you than the bedspread is, though! Reminds me of my old cat (long deceased, sadly, although she lived to the ripe old age of 19) - she used to pee on the guest bed if she didn't like visitors that we had! When our son was young, we had a succession of au pairs (we were both working and it was a good arrangement, with most of them) but we had one male au pair from Hungary, whom the cat absolutely loathed. I told him to keep his bedroom door shut, but he didn't listen and Cleo went in & pee-ed all over his bed. It wasn't as if she was old at the time, or had any medical problems - she just hated him! He only lasted 2 weeks, during which time he managed to crash the car and run up a huge phone bill, as well as upsetting the cat. I threw him out in the end.

Yup you can always rely on a pet to sort the rotters out Kleiber. Oops that was a bit of an own goal seeing as it was my bed she peed on:-(

Its a bit late now, but always buy a mattress cover for a new bed, then if you accidently spill tea [ or worse] it usually doesnt go through to the mattress,poor cat she is 18 and probably confused, I hope you manage to save your new bedspread.We have to put a cover over our nice bedspreads because the dogs sleep on the bed if we go out.

We had a very similar incident involving an elderly cat and a mattress, it was my auntie's cat and she (my aunt that is) had only recently beforehand bought a very expensive mattress (one of this craftmatic type beds that do tricks etc). Anyway she had some very nice guys who came and did an infra-red mattress clean, it was a real proffessional job done with very classy equipment. These mattress cleaners go all over the country cleaning mattresses for hotels and hospitals. The mattress was as clean as new afterwards and the clean cost her 50 quid. These particular guys came from Leeds but I believe there are many of them on line advertizing.
