In the UK a young person can leave home at 16. (If he/she is reported as 'missing' by his/her parents, the police are barred from revealing the young person's whereabouts to the parents without the permission of the young person). However, googling for an answer to your question suggests that the age in California is 18 unless there's a relevant court order in place.
