Is there a MIL light on?
Any transmission lights?
Had any engine/exhaust related faults recently that needed attention?
Sounds like ECU going into 'limp home' mode. This may need scanning on Citroen system for faults.
Check around under bonnet and particularly at any air pipe that may have come away or fractured .. incl. the main engine air pipe and around throttle body.
Does engine idle normally and respond to throttle correctly?

It is diesel 2.2 hdi. just had new FAP fitted.
All errors were off and the one time Im doing constantn 70mph and suddenly ASR/ESP not functioning pops up on the display and puts car in limp mode.
I have to stop and wait for the fuel pump to stop whirling and restart the engine and then its almost fine. Almost because I have antipolutant fault on but it does affect the driving.
Ive checked most of the pipework I think and the only concern is oily intercooler.
Some say its normal but if it isn't how to check if infact it is the intercoller. or maybe a sensor in weels? I have no idea and not even thinking of going to citroen dealer fo obvious (£££) reasons and diagnostic in my town knows as much as me but asking 120£ to tell me that is wrong as it is not a Citroen specialis. Quite upset because it has been a great runner for the last 4 years I owned it and was fault free untill now.
