Dickie Doyle. Interred in a Japanese POW camp. A fellow prisoner miraculously managed to survive near-decapitation. He was smuggled back into the camp where Doyle performed surgery on him using piano wire to sew back his half-decapitated head & neck.

When liberated from the POW camp he went on to practise as a surgeon at the Royal Liverpool Hospital for many years; keeping very modestly quiet about his quite remarkable, and successful, operation.

You could say he 'kept his head' under duress.... ?!

I came across a very small article in yesterday's newspaper and looked into it further today on t'internet. Fascinating.

I wonder if sqad knew him?!!!
wow what an amazing story salla!
using piano wire, wow
Amazing salla.

A mate of mine was on patrol in Sarawak in a helicopter when it stalled and crashed on a hillside.Knowing that it may explode at any moment, everyone jumped out and ran down the hill as quickly as possible as that type of helicopter was prone to explode. Half way down the hill, my mate looked backed and saw one of the men with his arm pinned to the ground by a part of the helicopter and without a second thought fan back up the hill, amputated the guy's arm and dragged him to safety seconds before the helicopter blew up.
For that he was awarded the M.C

And so he should have been sqad - nice story. There are some very brave people. Funny thing is, it's probably not always the ones you expect to be so brave in the face of adversity or potential death. I don't suppose we ever know how we would react and how brave (or cowardly) we would be unless actually faced with it.
