Just curious.

I was adopted by my Grandparents and thus given the Surname I have now via change of deed poll. Have no record of the paper work however.
Everything I have is my current surname. Passport , driving license , NI record etc

However a birth record for my birth surname exists.

So in theory could I take my birth certificate and apply for a passport in my birth surname ?

Between 1903-1999, if a Deed Poll was enrolled the indexes to the Enrolment Books of the Supreme Court of Judicature will need to be checked in the National Archives, Kew. The change of name can be searched for by former name or by new name. If the search is successful, certified copies of a persons Deed Poll can be...

I think if they check your copy at the records office there will be a notation about the change of name. Certainly when I got a copy of my aunt's birth certificate there was a note in the margin about her adopted name...............whether the passport office check these things is a different matter.

The amount of tax I pay , I feel like I'm treated as two people already.

I don't intend to apply for a second passport.

My wife has two passports ...UK and Canadian , but in the same name.

ooohhhh ....If I went back to my Birth name, that person is not married ....
No, there will be a double taxation treaty......could be advantages if your credit record is shot to pieces, SirRR

My Credit History is fine.
I'm blackmailed by company on that on already.
Like Mint credit card charged me £25 late payment fee on a total bill of £3.19 a few years back. I figured you did not have to pay if under a Fiver.
After some begging and they would only reduce the charge to £15.
But I had to pay ....wanted to tell them to go and tuff it ...but they would have the last laugh and give you a Credit black mark.
That's why you cant fight these people ...

Doing a Reggie Perrin does sound tempting some days.

However, as far as i recall, children who were legally adopted did not need deed poll but simply had new registered entry in the adoption registers with a link to their original birth registration and vice versa, if you were not legally adopted then your name change by deed poll if under the age of consent would have been quite long drawn out process legally.
