facebook accuracy

I am representing a member of staff at work. Whilst off sick, he was tagged on face book as being in two pubs. Not being a face book user, I am unsure how accurate these entries are, or do they just show when someone made the entry. He has proof to show that he was in neither of these places at the times shown, so I am not too worried about that.
How easy is it to tag someone's account, and write inaccurate comments?

it will only give the date of when he was tagged or the photo as being uploaded.

I could tag my brother in my status now saying we are at pub. But as hes in USA and Im sat at home in Suffolk it wont be true

Very easy, unless a user has specifically changed their settings so that no-one can tag them, any Facebook user can tag any Facebook friend (save those who have changed their settings as before) anywhere.

Where are they saying they were at the time? Anywhere they can provide easy evidence of such as receipts?

if it's the "so and so is at the bell inn" type of thing that checks your phone automatically and puts where you are then he simply needs to say someone else had his phone. If it's a picture, it also can't be proved when it was taken. If you're off sick, do you have to stay in bed all day though?

I can upload and tag any of my own photos of friends and family and make any comment about them - New Year's Eve 2010. Can be any old rubbish.

He has statements from his ex employer, who was named in the tag with him, stating that he was not present, and from a friend who came to his home to see him at the same time he was tagged in a pub. He has also told me that he has been tagged in numerous places at various times when I can prove he was at work, (including Barbados - if only!).

Some facebook users tag photos with friends' names to bring the photo to their attention, even when they are not in the photo.
Disregard the photos as evidence.

Thanks for those answers. Confirms what I thought. Will do a bit more work today, with hearing tomorrow. Not worried about outcome, but am concerned at how the decision was arrived at.

Hearing went as expected. Bosses evidence torn to shreds, no case to answer. Just a shame that a colleague was put under so much stress for what ammounts to no more than gossip. Thanks for the comments.
