Inserting a Firewire 3 Port ICI Card

Take off cover
Locate vacant slot
Remove blanking panel
Push Card into slot
Do up screw
Put cover back on

Uh yeah, as rojash says, but I'd recommend a static wrist strap to feel confident you are not zapping the chips with your fingers.

Just done it so we could download from old Sony camcorder.

Remarkably easy as rojash and OG say.

open pc case (the side for mine) and there were the spare sockets.

Bit of care needed inserting card without damaging 'prongs' - that's all.

I just leave the machine plugged in and earth myself on the case.

OK, I`ve Googled it, but have never heard of one before. Am I likely to get a shock without one?

No.

They are not to protect you, they are to protect the computer. Just do as rojash says, leave the power lead plugged into the computer (you can turn the switch off at the wall if it makes you feel better) and make sure you touch the casing of the computer to discharge any static in you before taking the card out the anti static bag it'll come in and putting it in the computer.

OK; but in defence of my advice, I may be confident enough to leave the PC plugged into the mains, and ensure I've earthed on some non painted part of the case, but I believe someone tackling adding cards for the first time would benefit from a constant earthing.
