Just been reading about a prisoner who escaped and phoned the police to complain that his jail was too soft! Now if the prisoners think that, I mean how far from Butlins must our prisons be?

january Bug...why this venom.I have come back to this site after a week and see you are in a right mood. Come on girl (not meaning pejoratively) chill out and loosen up. Its only fun after all. Go on get that last essay in and make sure you have clocked out at the correct time. And make that a pint as well...no half measures.
The main problem these days is that Butlins is now like a prison camp.

I meant what I said in the thread - and I did get a dig immediately after it - so I wasn't wrong.  Am I not allowed to be passionate?  Do I have to feel as hopeless about life as so many other people who post in this section?

I graduate on Saturday and finished my masters two months ago.  So no essays to hand in.  But thanks all the same.  :-)

Maybe jan you ought to give more credit to posters here. They have not given up on life, they see it clearly and wish other would too. Almost everyone on this site is passionate about their take on politics, life and so on. You have every right to be passionate about what you think is right but IMHO you ought to be prepared to take some criticisms especially when the politics of the day are concerned.

All the best with the graduation. what have you planned for your jeremy beadle moment.

When was the last time someone posted in news to say "Isn't it great that the government is finally doing X,Y or Z?"  Or to say "Our local council wasn't looking after our parks properly, so I've joined a society that takes care of our green spaces by doing volunteer work at the weekends?".  No - never!  If people ARE doing something about it, beyond one mention once of a letter to an MP (which IS doing something about it) then I'm not seeing how people are bieng positive at all.  It's like a political agony aunt column where people's response is "ooo-er yes it is all rubbish isn't it!?".

Also - mMy "Jeremy Beadly moment"?!?! huh?

Finally - people criticising my views is fine - but they don't.  People criticise how I reached my views, and why.  And the continued patronising undertones that I'm naive and will grow out of it are there.  It's no wonder I'm one of the younger posters in this section.  Others probably don't want to post when they realise they'll just be treated like a child.

Jeremy beadle....the one where you fake a fall as you collect your degree ina  gown and get it on camera......and send it in to beadle.....its all ajoke

I'm graduating in Rotterdam - no gowns.  That and NONE of my coursemates would get it (except for perhaps the other 2 Brits, but even then, I'm not sure they watch that programme!)

For my LLB, we didn't go for that either.  Something to do with the thing having cost us the best part of 12k I think - stops it being so funny!  Maybe lawyers take themselves too seriously.

Anyway Dom Tuk - get with the times, you mean a "Johnathon WIlkes moment"! :-p :-)

erm... when was the last time you were in prison Loosehead? Personally I've never been but I do know people who have been inside for various things (I'm a true crime fan) and not one of them have said it was remotely easy. The papers find it easy to print how easy prisons are because it gets people talking and causes outcry.

However I have it from a reliable source that the sex pests DO get it easy (sheets changed twice as often, money and no work, porn, hobbys, kept away from the other inmates etc.). Too easy infact. They're all criminals so lock them up together surely?
January_Bug - hi ! Have you (or anyone here actually) read the book "A product of the system" by a guy called Mark Leach? It is a bvery interesting book, written by a guy who has spent his whole life in one institution or another. He writes very clearly about the "system" but doesn't bleat about how it's not his fault or pretend that he is an innocent man. I highly recommend it to anyone who has opinion on our prison sytem.
Hang 'em 'n Flog 'em I say.(preferably both)
So acw has returned in her original guise.
yes manilo, but it isn't a secret so what's the problem?
Absolutely no problem.

manilow - I'm sorry but WHAT!?!  Who are you?  And what's your problem?  I'm not in my "original" guise.  I returned as january bug over 2 months ago and was "found out" within about 3 days, and have been posting as january bug ever since, but never hiding who I "really" am.  I have no idea who you are or what your problem is.

Thanks for the recommendation mycatis, and for defending me in my absence.  I have NO idea what's being said now, but frankly I'm beyond caring.

On the matter of the prisons, I shall keep an eye out for that book.  Bit busy revising commercial stuff at the moment, but it never hurts to become a bit more widely informed, so I'll look it out!  Thanks for the tip mycatis! :-)
