The dear old girl that lives next door asked if I would do her a favour. I said that I would if I could. Then she asked:

"If you're the first to find me when I've popped my clogs, will you put my teeth in for me before you ring my son?" She's 81 but incredibly sprightly so hopefully it won't be for a while yet.

Anyone else been asked an unusual favour?

She's a smashing old lass and she puts me to shame. She's often washing her windows at 8.00 in the morning!

Yes, .... she slept in the spare bedroom that night. ...
Yes....when i die, will you cut the artery in my groin to make sure that i am dead..........before I am buried.
Sqad, that's one of my fears....not being dead when I am pronounced "dead"...ugh,..have left instructions with my family to that eventuality...can only hope they sort it out lol.

Oh yes, that's a horrible thought....being declared dead when you're not. :o(
what a nice lady she sounds but maybe she has had a premonition or something, I'm okay I have implants.
When anyone with dentures has an operation, the first thing they want when they come round is their teeth. I have often said I would not be seen dead without mine and this lady obviously feels the same way. They only leave my mouth to be cleaned and are straight back in afterwards. Look like an old witch without!!

some Victorians used to have a piece of string in their coffin leading up to a bell on the ground, so that if they awoke after burial they could alert someone. I don't know if this was ever tried.
Best be cremated. By the time you are woken up by the heat and hammer on the oven door it'll be too late.
When my Mum died (in hospital) the lovely nurse Vanessa said ' I will just tidy her up before you say goodbye' next moment she popped her head round the door and asked me if I would put Mum's teeth back in, as she hated to do it.
jno, I'm pleased to say it worked for me :-)
There is nothing new in this. My grandmother would insist on wearing freshly laundered underwear if she had to go out shopping in case she was ever run over by a bus.
you're a Victorian, Khandro? I had you down as a South Australian.
Question Author
Jno, I believe that's where the expression "Saved by the bell" originated.
