Poor Jogger! She has spent all evening entertaining us with details of her harmless divertissements, and suddenly, there she was, gone, and never called me Mother!

(This is not a thread about a thread, by the way, merely the musings of a lonely old man:)"

"No less" ...or more ;-)
I wonder who that "Peggy" was, the first one that spring to mind was the dance choreographer Peggy Spencer.

I was thinking the famous actress Dame Peggy Ashcroft, but could be wide of the mark.

By the way, whatever happened to the old polari?
Bona to vader yer dolly old eke!
I had to look that one up !
I'm sure it's still in use - I just glanced through a polari "dictionary" and there were words and terms I've heard that are still in in modern useage.

If you want a good laugh, although I know you are not a religious person, then google the Bible in Polari, translated by the "sisters of perpetual indulgence". It is a hoot, but perhaps not so much unless you are familiar with the usual texts. It is actually a literal translation but with polari words inserted. Thus, instead of "God spake", we get "Gloria cackled", the children of Israel become " the omi chavvies" &c. Best read with a copy of the original beside you, but provides hours of entertainment for those old enough to remember Round the Horne &c.
What a laugh, I wonder how many other 'translations' of the bible there are.
I must away to the land of nod - I have to get up tomorrow to go and teach my Dad how to use Photoshop !
G'nighty.
