S/he needs to be taken out for at least 2 20min walks a day
Question Author
my son takes him out for a walk in the morning(10-15 mins
i take him into the garden for about 10 mins depending on weather
then in the evening he is out for about 1-2 hours in the park,my son sometimes takes his bike and he runs beside him, then out again just before we go to bed.
does he do it in front of you or just when left alone?
Have a spray bottle of water handy, every time he goes to chew something give him a few sharp bursts of water, he'll soon get the idea and he'll leave things alone.
You have to be persistant tho.

simply take whatever you don't want the dog to chew away from him/her with a firm 'no' and substitute it with what he can chew with 'good boy/girl - dogs are designed to chew so best get hound clear as to what is and is not acceptable.
Give him some Chewits (for dogs); they are the best thing to chew in the world!
Don't do the spray thing, there's no need. It sounds like anxiety chewing. How long in the day is he left alone for.

he isnt left alone,i am in all day,son takes him out often and he goes out for runs in the car which he loves,he cries when craig goes to work though and sits at the bottom of the stairs for ages,i forgot to tell you he was an abandoned dog, tied outside a vet with a dislocated leg/shoulder.he was with the rspca for two weeks,so you could say he is a three legged rescue dog(whippet)
Question Author
and yes he does it in front of you, trying to bite your trouser legs, laces, slippers while you are wearing them,he has lots of toys .
Maybe hes worried about your son is he protective of him it could be depression anxiety
Maybe theres a lack of discipline are you worried if you are strick you will upset/unsettle him
Question Author
he doesnt like letting my son out of his sight,he follows him everywhere,he said he should have changed his name fron cody to shadow
* separation
What reasons had he got to be worried about your son?
Question Author
son is really great with him ,very kind and patient,we dont know anything about him previous to being tied up,also we are guessing he is about 8 months old,but he is in a good happy home and we would,nt do anything to hurt him,
II didnt meen it like that it just seems that the dog has a very strong bond with your son and is scared of been abandoned or separated from him or he is worried about your son and wants to protect him
It sounds like he never got his baby bite inhibition learning, also maybe he is quite an anxious boy? It could be worth trying a DAP diffuser or a canine tranquiliser, talk to your vet about what would be best...maybe you could also take him to training classes to teach him to listen to you as well as your son.
Hi, it could be his back teeth coming in. Personally I would just keep on distracting him from bad chewing with a toy or bone.
