I used to live in Scotland, I'd never heard the expression "scheme" til I moved up there - down here we call it an estate....
^^ Mind you, Rab C Nesbitt doesn't get subtitles, does he?
im sure most cities in britain have similar places like " the scheme " tink. but its important anyone watching these type of programmes realise the focus was on the most under privileged in the area,

agreed anne. its very sad actually. i seen alot of outrage at an eposide...i missed the viewing but i heard it showed someone injecting or similar...and thats mabye a bit below the belt...however that is reality im afraid!

reay boxtops!? haha i never knew scheme was one of our words haha xx

rab c does not have subtitles...but even i can hardly undestand marvin and dayna from the scheme....xx
The only prog I watched a while back, where I really could not translate, was a feature about some fishermen in Fraserburgh.
It's a bit extreme but Ayrshire is not all like that...some of us escape...;-) I've only ever seen one episode and all I could think about was thank god I got out. Parts of Kilmarnock, where the programme is filmed, are really run down Onthank, New Farm loch etc but there are good people there as well.

absolutley slapshot- the family saving the community centre etc...its important to say there are good folk too!! all areas have their downsides i suppose x
box, people from peterhead cant understand anyone from fraserburgh !
Anneasquith......I'm an Ayrshireman in Aberdeen....I need to carry a dictionary with me!!
poor slapshop lol
I can cope Anne, my kids are almost fluent in doric especially the boy blunder
I used to watch Rab with subtititles, and from what I've read will probably do the same with this when I get round to watching it. Fortunately modern digi boxes allow you to choose.
I caught this last night. I thought "The Scheme" was a plan or experiment to help poorer families. I didn't realise it was a "Council Estate"!
I couldn't have understood it without subtitles.
I was fascinated by the programme, and I don't mean any offence to anyone, but found it hard to believe that it was true to life.
