I would say BRO a CH as in to broach a subject
I would go for BROOCH as the answer to what has a catch and sounds like BROACH, i.e. in conversation.
I would tend to go with brooch. How familiar are you with that compiler? How would previous and similar clues have been answered?

My gut instinct is brooch, so I will probably go with that. As this is my last clue I though I would sound people out as I was unsure.
Thank you all for your help.
I've just submitted it online with BROOCH and received a 100% correct score.
I would say Brooch, as it sounds like (conversation) Broach

Thanks once again to everyone for your help. Have submitted it on line with brooch and scored 100%.
Just a note to Scotman – The Times does not identify its setters, so no comparison with other puzzles is possible. I had no problem with this clue – it seemed obvious it was 'brooch'. Easy puzzle today, I thought.
