vulcan bomber

hi, as i was getting out of the car to go into tesco yesterday, the vulcan bomber went overhead. Where might iit have been going do you think? i live in the south. Were there any shows or anything yesterday that might have featured it? And as a little controversial aside, do you think the government should fund it as part of our heritage?

I`ve just looked at their website and it flew at the Cotswold airshop yesterday and at Margate. I don`t think it whould be funded by the government though. (even if they had the money at the mo)!

It wouldn`t be able to JD. Half their airspace is still closed due to the ash cloud from Chile :-)

Could be Duxford, as last time was there, though some years ago, one was in a hangar, they are magnificent beasts aren't they. They should but they don't give a stuff abut heritage.

IMHO it should at least have a helping hand from the government as part of our heritage/aviation hisory.

If they can afford to help bail out EU countries and pledge £814 million of our money for a world vaccination programme I'm sure they can spare a little from the coffers for the Vulcan.

bednobs 237SJ has answered your question, but it brought up a couple of incidents in my mind.

1954 Took a girl out for a "bike ride2 and we got settled in a field when we were surrounded by RAF Regiment soldiers with bayonets fixed and were told to move on. A Vulcan, still on the secret list had crashed near Stamford.

1994 Each year would take junior staff to a weekend in the Bomber County ...Lincolnshire...Woodhall Spa..The had to come if they were to expect a reference ;-)
During our stay at the Petwood Hotel I met a mate of mine from grammar school and it turned out that he flew Vulcans during his carrer in the RAF.
I asked him to be guest speaker at the dinner and he agreed........he was the star.

A successful weekend for the Vulcan crew
Following last weekend's nightmare weather at Cosford, there was a change of luck this weekend as the Vulcan completed two displays at both the Cotswold Airshow and also on the South coast at Margate, where XH558 put in a shift to wow the crowds again.

First off then, and the take off at Kemble which saw a great take off - see the video below, and thanks go to the youtuber for the excellent footage from outside the base, and there was a cracking display there before it was on to Margate to make the most of the dry conditions amongst a relatively up and down weekend as far as the weather was concerned in the UK - so great to see another successful weekend for the Vulcan crew to enjoy

I saw it when it was doing a fly-by for for the Radio 1 roadshow in Weston-super-mare some years ago, first it went over WSM sea front then spent more than an hour doing figure of eights over the village where I was working, incredible plane, what struck me was that you couldn't hear it coming but when it went past what a noise.
