Please make them stop - if we must have them on here, can they at least be confined to appearing only on the main topic pages, not every time I click on a link?

If you are getting a lot of pop-up ads may be worth checking that you haven't accidently installed any stealth 'spy-ware' products like Gator that will automatically pop up adverts for its clients on any page it feels like. Use a product like Ad-aware to check and cleanse your system.
no, this place is popup mad. you wanna get popupstopper freeware it works great. As for gator BLEEAARRGHH! WEB CRIMINALS. and doubleclick, fastclick adserver, bluestreak, hitbox, tribalfusion, valueclick to name a few sneaky underhand webgoblins.. If you don't want this intrusiveness Cookiewall freeware let's you deny certain cookies as soon as thet arrive. :-)
They are truly the scourge of the internet. However I've noticed that Answerbank doesn't funtion properlly with my pop-up-stopper enabled. As the site uses legit pop-ups to sign on and post etc
Try using a firewall or editing you hosts file to block or misdirect HTML queries to the advertising companies. I have blocks in place for "popuptraffic", "exitfuel", "valueclick", "infinite-ads", "doubleclick", "sextracker", "valueclick", "link4ads", "dialer", "adviva" and "arriba". End result? No access to URLs with those keywords in them can take place, and hence no ads. Not one pop-up that isn't legitimate so rest assured this method works!
Well, Headtime, when using 'Panicware' popupstopper with AB, you just hold down your Ctrl button while you post or answer; this works fine - unless you have an inferior popupstopper clone. and CookieWall works good too.
