I've just heard someone on the telly advise feeding peanuts to hedgehogs.....

Please peeps, smash them into bits first.....hedgehogs get whole peanuts stuck to the roof of their mouth and this prevents them from being able to eat. :o(

I wouldn't feed peanuts anyway, surely not a natural food for a hedgie? - and certainly not salted peanuts btw!

Hiya Boxy.

They love peanuts (never salted)....not their natural food, but a nice treat for them. There's also a lot of fat in nuts, which helps them to put weight on, ready for hibernation.
That's true mrs c - just I'd never heard of it before. But then you feed peanuts in bird feeders too!

There might be bits of peanuts on the ground underneath the feeders, Boxy, that the wee hedgehogs can eat, but some peeps put peanuts out especially for them.

It's a nice idea as long as they remember to smash them up.

Thanks for the link, Dave.

I once bought some prepared food but strangely the hedgehogs didn't seem too keen.

I suppose I've spoilt them....I buy 10 kilos of dried mealworms at a time, they cost a small fortune but the hedgies love 'em, and so do the wild birds.

I rehydrate the worms...they don't half pong. :o(
