Young offenders holiday camp
http://www.thesun.co....eens-luxury-home.html
Fully equiped gym, heated swimming pool, juice bar, computers, games consoles, sports hall
Is this a correctional centre for youngsters who have committed serious crimes?
.........or is it Butlins?
Being incarcerated for serious crimes should be a punishment and they should have access to none of these facilities, how can places like this be a deterrent when they have things that many law abiding youngsters can't afford to have?

I have had lots of contact with offenders of all ages thriugh my job..I used to also run courses and talks inside...many of the younger inmates preferred it inside as they had things there not at home...ie computers, playstations, plasma tv, sports, fitted out gyms etc etc etc.... 3 meals a day..regular gp and dentist visits...someone to care for them...even if it were the screws...!!! NOT really an incentive to go straight is it ?? I am not suggesting cruelty or deprivation but it IS supposed to be a punishment NOT a holiday....
A 'young' person I knew went to prison a few years ago. Has providing him with games stations, computers, access to drugs and porn whilst in there, gym memberships, freebie spa days, sports and computer equipment on the outside put him back on the straight and narrow? Has it h3ll, it just made him more determined to not get caught next time.
I got no help whilst in prison and if my first wife had not divorced me whilst I was inside for the last time and then dumped my children on me when I was released I would have re-offended again as sure as anything. As it was because I had no money- lots of little kids to support and no-one to help me look after them I did the only thing I could think of doing which was go to the one person who had ever shown any compassion for me and who I thought might be able to help- so I went to London ( from Belfast
) and the lady who became my second wife eventually helped me get off drink and drugs and sort myself out- if I had not had her I would at least be back inside now if not dead. You have to help people, you can't just punish them, it doesn't work.

<<<< Schools need also to stop placing the emphasis on achievement and start placing the emphasis on being a nice person->>>
I think Nox means "nice person" generally speaking most nice people are also law abiding but the emphasis is being a "nice Person" there are many truly law abiding people out there but very few nice people!!

Yes I do mean NICE person not law abiding Ratter- someone who has their priorities right, are not cruel or judgemental and someone who is kind and helpful- schools need to reward kindness and compassion not just sprting or academic achievment. If you're thick but nice no-one give you any credit, which is entirely wrong imho.
But he hated prison..........which is one in the eye for the folks on here with the 'holiday camp' attitude.
The fact that he is not willing to meet the system halfway to keep himself out of there, when he so obviously hated it shows up nothing so much as his lack of imagination.
*Some* people can't and won't be helped...it doesn't mean that we shouldn't try.
