how does this work

You buy something on line, and have to register all your details, with that company, you buy the goods, it might be the only time you will use that site, but it means they still have all your details, bank card number etc, is that how it works. i had a look at amazon which i have used only once, and they still have me as a customer, the welcome is hi.....
do you deregister, i need some help please.

If the site saves your information then you can just go into your account and delete it.

As long as the site has a padlock on it, or the web address starts with shttp://, you should be fine with this, these are secure sites. Otherwise - just close your account, then your info should disappear.

thanks, its that easy, i worry that my card, home details are floating around for all to see. I am not a great fan of buying on line, had stuff delivered that was not what i expected, especially clothes, and having to send it back. Last one i had to pay the postage, i did get a refund on the goods, but i rarely do this.

I'v heard That this is not always the case and that on some sites there isn't the option to just delete The details back off. Some sites you can make profiles add pictures and all sorts but when It comes to removing it all you can't. Be care full to what sites you do put you info on. Some times it's passed on to other sites if you miss ticking a small box or somthing and never know!

em, I understand your concern but some of us buy on-line all the time, bank on-line - etc., and (touch wood) have never had a problem. As long as you use reputable sites with security features, you should be OK.

i entered a competition on line a radio show i listen to, and then proceeded to get endless e mails from the company that promoted the gift, i did tick the box that said if you don't want to be contacted, but they still did.

OK, at the bottom of the email there should be a link which says "unsubscribe" - click on that and you shouldn't get any more. Or, if you ticked the box, ring 'em up and complain that your instructions aren't being followed.

we also receive post for a woman. which has our address on it, but the persons name is definitely not us, nor an old resident, I contacted the company concerned, but they don't seem to understand what i am asking, its not the first or second time had post for this person, but half a dozen, and not just one company, so not sure if our address has been used for fraudulent purposes.

Re these letters - just write NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS on them and return to sender. If you are worried about your address, get a credit check done through a company like Experian - it only costs £3 and it will show you about transactions and credit applied for via your address.

i know experien we had an account with them, they did regular credit checks etc a while ago, but had to stop as couldn't afford it anymore, but will look into that, thanks, and i did unsubscribe to that particular site, but they still managed to send these e mails. So much info is now on line, and you hear of hackers getting personal details, and i don't fancy finding out, like that woman recently who had her ID stolen that someone is walking around as me, and buying goods, and travelling around with my ID. I did look at one site, it has details of how you delete your account, so cheers for all the help

any junk mail you can open and send back in their pre-paid envelope. Even better, mix them up and do it - they will be charged but all it costs you is a bit of time ;-)

em, you would know if people were using your ID, the goods would be being delivered to your house or you'd see unfamiliar transactions on your credit card account. If you are really worried that your card info has been accessed, contact your card holder - they will cancel that card and send you a new one with different numbers.

No CC i won't have them, too much trouble in the past, but the post worried me, i have resent so many letters to these companies, ppresume they are comuter generated, but they still keep on coming. We are on a mail preference that bars junk mail but it doesnt seem to have worked. After endless letters from one estate agents, i wrote on envelope, no more mail, but that didn't work either.

Amazon have a dedicated database that has all customers' info on it, but this database is NOT connected to the web - so hackers will not be able to access your details.
