More info on meter reading jobs, please

Hi,
Was looking to apply to meter-u as a franchised meter reader but after reading this

I'm sceptical.
Now I've an interview with CIP metering.
Does anyone have any personal experience with either company ? There's no info on the CIP website so I'd be particularly interested to know more about that job, eg. pay, distances expected to be travelled, mileage allowances, etc.

trudging around hoping that people will let you into their hovels to read a meter stuck away in a dark smelly cupboard....

the only people happy to see you and let you in will be lonely old dears who see no-one all week and want to talk about the price of a loaf of bread in 1945...

Well, start Monday. CIP's definitely kosher and, so far seems ok, with them paying mileage and holidays. The number of meters they expect you to read is far less than on that previous thread and there's a bonus scheme in place for if/when you exceed it - need to find out more about that.

It may well prove to be a broccoli job kinell, I don't know, but I've a mortgage to pay and no hope of going back to the work where I was in a comfy office earning big. Needs must !
