Fines for parking on private land

I parked on the hotel car park across the road from my office because i was late for a meeting. I intended to pop out and move to my usual place, and i forgot, so the car was there for the day.

It appears I may get a fine through the post offering photo evidence, and fining me £60, rising to 80 if unpaid.

I am happy to pay a fine, but i think £60 is excecssive - I believe that i can offer a standrd tarrif penalty - £30 and this is agreeable within the law.

Can anyone confirm if this is true?

Are there any signs detailing the charge for illegal parking. If so, you are deemed to have knowingly entered into a contract and the fine can be recovered from you.
If there are no signs you have committed trespass and the landowner can claim "reasonable damages" for not only wear and tear but loss of amenity. I'm guessing the landowner wouldn't be bothered to go to civil court for this but some of the agencies may.

I thought that only courts could issue fines ?

I do not think you will get away with a lesser amount for an whole day, that is only usually recommended for people who overstay by a very short time when they have been parked in shops and restaurant carparks after using their facilities.

Don't pay! Tell them they need to take it up with the driver. You are merely the owner. These are easy to bluff, I've had a couple myself!
Is the fine made to look like an official Police type ticket? Many are, but aren't really worth the paper they're written on. You may get a letter saying they'll take you to court, bailiffs etc. Ignore them all, they are just bluster.

Usually people in this situation get clamped or towed and charged ridiculous amounts (hundreds)

do not pay, its like you walking into a takeway and them sending you a fine for entering, the also have to prove it was you that parked it there

Sounds "fine" to me this penalty! Lol! Seriously though, I do not have any proper advice to offer you.
