How do you check your posture is correct on a mountain bike i.e seat height, handlebars etc etc.

The height of the seat should be so that when you're leg is extended furthest whilst pedalling (the longest point on the full turn of the pedal) the knee is as straight as possible without actually locking back against the joint, i.e. there is still the faintest of bend forwards. The height of the handlebars is then down to personal comfort but usually roughly the same height as the seat. (Large people like myself tend to have the handlebar higher to put less pressure on the arms).

But don't forget, if you intend to use the bike seriously off road (ie; steep downhills), make sure you can drop the saddle down to let you hang over the back wheel - or you may have a trip over the handlebars!!
