Computer dead after malware attack

After having been attacked by the "Windows XP Recovery" virus, I think I am finally rid of the damn thing. But now my computer has no desktop icons, no system restore points, all the items in every folder are hidden and I can't connect to an internet connection. Does anyone know how to bypass all this and get my computer back to normal? thanks in advance
