renaming jpg

Please could someone tell me how to rename a jpg in my pictures folder. When I attempt to do it it tells me I will make the file unstable amn unable to read which when I tried it, it did. I used to be able to do it bit obviously have forgotton how. Many Thanks from an amateur.

 have just tried it and this is the outcome:

If you rename the file you want WITHOUT typing .jpg after it then that error message comes up, so rename your file and remember to type .jpg and it will (should!)work.
