Good grief, there's four weeks till the end of term then a six week holiday but I have just seen an advert from Tescos for 'Back to school uniforms'. They'll have the Christmas decorations up next.

6 months from today it will be Boxing Day. Enough said about that; the next person to mention the 'C' word will be shot!

I put the money to one side (in my daughter's Dora purse) and buy it all in a whirlwind (they might grow over the next couple of weeks). Already have some hand me down bits for the eldest boy going to big school though (how can he be going to big school - he's still a baby?).
When I was a kid, I used to hate seeing the 'back to school' signs in shops, because it spelt the beginning of the end of the summer hols.

tmas,
Sorry, Sherrardk. Babies don't demand designer watches for their birthdays!
;-)
no, no, no, no
Arti:
It's not just the kids that hate those signs. When I was teaching, I hated them too (as, no doubt, did Sherrardk when she was teaching).

Buenchico - to be fair to the boy, he doesn't want a posh watch, he just wants a smaller version of his dad's. He couldn't give a stuff about clothes or trainers, etc and is very laid back about possessions (he is spoilt, but that's from our doing but he is a lovely lad). Given the number of younger siblings he has got I think he is brilliant!
Question Author
Hi again Buenchico - I only went into teaching for the holidays, not for my love of educating the young of the country. Hats off to anyone who sticks it out.
You make your son (and all your other children, as well) so wonderful, I almost wish that I was still teaching, Sherrardk ;-)

Obviously I love them all to pieces but the girl twin is a nightmare - she has all the naughty features of the others, other people describe her as 'endearing' but I know she is down right naughty (but fab). Boy twin has all the odd traits of the others.
Did you get to the coast today, Sherrardk?
Question Author
Yes we did, but the flipping tide came in really quickly and the children went into a panic (well the youngest did). The girl twin was like something off it's a knockout, she kept slipping on the seaweed and then doing the same thing over and over. They got some time in the sea and then we ventured off somewhe else. The youngest two fell asleep in the car and it was a nightmare to get them to sleep (especially as it is so warm tonight).
But a good time was had by all.
I hope that you've got a glass of something alcoholic by your side, Sherrardk. It sounds as if you might be in need of it ;-)

Got that all sorted and thanks for asking about our day. Try to go out most Sundays as it's nice for everyone to do something together. Hope you had a good weekend too.
I spent most of yesterday delivering leaflets (about a public exhibition relating to a new housing development around here) to hundreds of houses in the town. (Boring but it helps pay some bills!).

Today I've been in central London, mainly around Somerset House and the Southbank. (A nice day, with possibly rather too much beer - at £3.95 per pint! - from the bar of the Queen Elizabeth Hall).
Some schools have a bring and buy sale with school uniforms so that outgrown uniforms still in good shape can be bought cheaply. I know kids don't like wearing second-hand stuff because they have, up to now, been used to having new, but with the present economic climate I reckon they will have to get used to it. That is, if the above sales are arranged.
Buenchico
£3.95 is par for the course here, and a friend reckons we could be looking at £5 a pint come the Olympics. One of the reasons, not the only, pubs are closing.
