EMachines E250 not Booting

My EMachines E250 is only booting for a few seconds before it freezes. After the initial screen comes up the next screen features a "power bar" along the bottom. The solid line gets about 10% across then freezes. At this point no key works and it has to be switched off.

Has anyone any ideas about how to recover from this?

As soon as you start keep pressing the F8 key which will take you to an emergency boot up screen. Choose sytem restore and do it. Then it should be OK. I have had similar problems with recent windows updates not loading properly.
