I think its becoming very unreal unlike it was when it first started. I know that there's a lot of exaggeration to make it entertaining but,
it seems that every week now you can guarantee that someone will have probs in the kitchen, either with their food mixer, microwave etc, or forgetting to switch on the oven.
Last night the woman forgot to put the main course in the oven and cook the veg, surely that's got to be a set up or planned by the TV company?
I wonder where they find the contestants. There is always one born trouble-maker who ruins it for everybody else, plus one who can't cook. Why are they on the programme if so?
I think it's unlikely that the four/five they put together will be names drawn out of a hat, a lot of thought will go into which contestants are put together in order to make the programme more interesting. And I wouldn't be surprised if they are told to make mistakes or do things wrong to spice the show up a bit. Bet they ALL end with a grand for their efforts too!!
Yes you're right trt it seems to be geared up for controversy nowadays as they definitely put mis matched people together which as Cpig seems to indicate making it a "more interesting" programme. I guess it's a theme run by many producers of TV progs now or else they think it will be too boring. Such a shame in a way because to me CDWM is all about competition in that the best meal wins but they seem to mark others down for the silliest things not just the cooking. I still like Dave Lamb's comments though, he is very witty.
i think if your stressed then you can forget to do things like that, but yes i'm a lot is set up
i can't get over how many go on and when reading the menu's don't know what things are, its a food show, surely you'd know what a jus or coulis is. always bugs me that does
I do love the programme but get annoyed with people who seem to like nothing or are unable to actually cook anything - seems unlikely for someone who would actually enter a cookery competion although it has perhaps moved away from being that! Last nights woman annoyed me what with grating and cutting her finger then forgetting to actually put the food on to cook!!
I don't think the mistakes are staged but the contestants are certainly picked for their 'awkwardness'. After all, if they were all good cooks and all good sports it wouldn't be very funny. I have also noticed now tho that originally when this prog started if smeone didn't like cheese (for example) the other contestants would be aware of it so that an other option could be made available. Now they only seem to tell them if they are veggies or need kosher/halal meat.
Still love the programme tho and yes - the sausage trifle is a must at my next dinner party LOL
