I got up early one morning to go coach some kids at the ice rink, on the way down stairs I stepped on a tack that had come loose and fell down the stairs. My toes crashed into the banister railing and I put his hand down to stop sliding any further..
I had damaged my hand, it was swelling as we (the missus) watched it, my foot was a mess, two toes were obviously broken and one of the bones was poking through. I stood up wiggled my toes and pushed the bones back in. The Wifelet drove to the rink and had to tie my skates for me but I got my glove on, went on the ice and coached for two hours. This included a shooting drill where I was breaking down the skills and demostrating, I could barely hold my stick.
After the session the inside of my skate was covered in blood from my toes, my sock a lovely pink hue saturated and my glove really had to be pulled off. She took him to the hospital where I was diagnosed with a dislocated thumb and broken scaphoid, three broken toes. When the doc asked why I hadn't come straight away, I explained that I couldn't let the kids down.
