Old music hall/radio comedian

Sorry in advance for sounding vague but can anyone out there name the music hall? radio comedian (30s 40s 50s?) who used to say things like "I feel better now than I did when I wasn't as well as....."I told you the memory is a vague one - my apologies, but at least it's a challenge!

I am now about to retire from the fray before I drive the rest of you as mad as myself-before I go I must say that I looked up, in my travels,"Quotes of Chic Murray" and recommend them to all of you who enjoy a wry smile!Thank you all for your help!
