Old music hall/radio comedian

Sorry in advance for sounding vague but can anyone out there name the music hall? radio comedian (30s 40s 50s?) who used to say things like "I feel better now than I did when I wasn't as well as....."I told you the memory is a vague one - my apologies, but at least it's a challenge!

Rob Wilton; he used to give long rambling monologues starting for example "The day war broke out, my missus said to me ............" ?

My old Dad used to say; "Its colder now than it was before it was as cold as what it is" that was in the 50s but no idea where it came from. Methinks it was a radio show??

Khandro, you are in the right sort of era but it wasn't Rob (a firm favourite of mine) and Jem, your Dad was obviously affected as I was by this old time radio comedian whose name continues to elude.Why this irritating phrase has come back to haunt me after all these years, I really don't know.

i have gone through endless artists, comedians, music hall people i can think of, looked up on the net, put the phrase in and seen what comes out, nothing. How annoying..

I am now about to retire from the fray before I drive the rest of you as mad as myself-before I go I must say that I looked up, in my travels,"Quotes of Chic Murray" and recommend them to all of you who enjoy a wry smile!Thank you all for your help!

so we still don't know, was it definitely a British comedian, music hall turn. Where did you hear it, when, any clues at all.

As I said my memories of the gentleman in question are vague-radio male comedian -same era maybe as Vic Oliver (violin) Leon Cortez (how can I remember that name?) guy who parodied opera and some of the others previously mentioned.
