I'm probably being dense here, but 1 down is

Not in favour of current soldier going over the top (4)

I have A-T-

so it's presumably ANTI (defined by "Not in favour") but I don't get the cryptic bit. Any offers?

I have ANTI in the soldier could be the ant as in Soldier Ants.
But I can not account for the I
'Ant' is soldier. 'i' is current (electricity).
I = current
Well, I started of with AGIN - meaning not in favour of. Current = IN with AG (adjutant general) over the top. Seems to fit until you fill in 9 ac!
