I have suffered with severe anxiety/panic attacks for the past ten years, on and off.
I rarely get this any more, but tonight I just can''t shake it off. Can someone, anyone just chat to me please. Doesn't matter what, I just need something to take my mind off it. Thanks.

Why "answerprank" ? Are you just bored, unable to sleep and looking for an argument, or are you simply a prick ?

I gave (what I believed to be) genuine advice, and this pretentious knob decided to start picking it apart, I think my reponse was totally within reason and controlled thankyou.
Come on answerprancer. remember what Clint Eastwood said - i take my job seriously but i don't take life seriously !
Yes but poor old Flip does - so where's your advice for her other than recommending beta blockers ?
Goddam prancyboy ! Just prescribed 40mg propanolol with GP recommendation. Reckon i can't do no more!
Jeeez I'm glad I never had to ask for help to weather one of the panic attack storms !!! and where is poor flit ?? given up in disgust and trying to get by themselves !!

anytime flit ... I'll just talk to you, I know that feeling only too well, but by now I hope the panic has settled and you've turned in .. have a quiet night
please never say pull your self together, if i had seen this earlier, would have suggested phoning someone, even the samaritans, its not just for people with suicidal thoughts, but having difficulties, they are very kind and helpful. they helped me a lot, as a long time sufferer, there is nothing straightforward about it. Don't take medication if you can help it, and the paper bag trick does work but not for long term, it can come on so suddenly, there is usually a trigger, perhaps something small that seems insignificant but talk it over with GP first, and go from there. Best wishes
as to some of the comments, hard to believe.
its the GPs job to prescribe drugs antlad, technically you have done nothing :)
I hope flip is feeling beter today xx
So do I alba. Panic attacks are not pleasant. I do not know how old you are flip - is it the menopause (sorry chaps you will have to put up with women's talk). I used to sit on the side of the bed in the middle of the night unable to breathe so I do understand. Fortunately for me I had a very understanding husband who helped me through it with patience. It will pass in time although you might still get them occasionally. The doctor might help you with HRT treatment (not drugs) which is much better nowadays than when first started. Hope this helps.
Star, they sound absolutely dreadful. (Panic attacks)

I sometimes feel a little anxious and jittery (am approaching that age). I glad you came out 'the other side' When you're going through such a terror it's almost impossible to see light at the end of the tunnel.
Alba - don't worry unnecessarily. Some women get through it with no problems whatsoever. Just accept what comes and if you do get any of the symptoms (hot flushes, panic attacks etc.) don't hesitate to get help from the doctor. There is no need to suffer there are things you can do. Incidentally propranalol was prescribed for me for migraine headaches - another symptom. My sister had no symptoms (lucky her).
i have had them from teens, so any age..
Yes em. I didn't mean to imply that was the only time you get them. Panic can strike anyone at any age. Just that it might be the cause.
Starbuckone, apologies not meant any criticism, i know they can come on any time, i did try and get help, but at that time, it was put down as teen problems, no one really knew what it was then, much more info now, but anyone who says pull yourself together needs a swift kick up the backside.
Often triggered by a traumatic event, though you won't necessaily attribute it to that, and can take long time to work out, what works best, but doctor is definitely the place to start. Its banded around so much, but unless its happened to you, you would not know how bad it can be.
