A serendipitous moment
When looking at marriage certificates always look at the witnesses. In my case, one of the witnesses to my gt.grandfathers marriage turned out to be the grooms uncle whom I never knew existed and in another case the witness was a sister giving her married name.

I always investigate witnesses, but sometimes you never discover why they should have had the honour and in the wee small hours you wonder why you are doing it. Pre-1837 in the marriage register, the churchwardens were often the witnesses.
Same applies to informants, particularly on death certificates. Before Suna's series of questions this past week on AB I would have said only on death certificates, but his investigations have shown that on two occasions the informant of a birth was a fellow-occupier of the property.
