Hope someone can help -- -

I'm trying to get hold of an obscure film that seems only to be available in VHS format and only for sale in the States! Does anyone know

a) How I might be able to convert an American VHS to a UK DVD

b) Any other means of getting hold of the film? I'd be happy to pay copyright or whatever!

Just out of interest, what is the film called and who stars in it?

Most modern VHS players will happily play NTSC tapes, though you may have colour problems on older TV sets. (If yours doesn't, you should be able to borrow one from a friend).

It should be pretty easy to connect your VCR to your PC via a video capture card/device. You can then use the captured file to create a DVD if you have a DVD burner or a couple of VCDs if you only have a CD burner.

What is the film?

Some of the newer DVD players have a video slot...ive found that they will be able to play the American VHS tapes....check the details! Im from Canada, and the same format works above the 49th ! Ive had videos sent over and they play without a problem

You could always get it 'translated' to UK system...check local ads, or yellow pages.

As to obtaining the movie....try e-bay, but specify world as a pose to UK.!

Hope this helps....

Aw come on, what's the film? I know, I know I shouldn't be so nosy but what can you do?

I bought a couple of very early Elvis movies a couple of years ago in NTSC format as they were only available in the States and they  played quite happily on our fairly old Panasonic TV/Video.

Yes, we're all dying to know the title of this film....so please put us out of our misery!

Thanks all for your kind replies and curiosity.

It's called "Black Magic" (1992) and stars Rachel Ward.

I'm going to risk playing it on a new-ish UK video player, but of course if it blows up or eats the tape, I will be sad. Wish me luck!

Don't worry, you'll be fine.

Are we all invited if we promise to bring some nibblies?
