Oil change

I have changed the oil on my Fiesta Diesel but couldn't get the filter off as it is hard to get at unless you've got the vehicle over a pit - it is high up on the back of the engine. I've managed to get at it before using ramps but I'm not the most mobile these days. (I usually have the oil changed by the garage at 10,000 but decided to do an intermediate change at 5000)
MY question is:- Is it easy enough for my local garage to just change the filter without actually changing the oil ? Am I right in thinking that you'd only lose the oil in the filter and not much more should pour out ?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I think once you take the filter out the oil will leak out very rapidly.
Once the engine has stopped the oil drains into the sump so as long as your filter is higher you will only lose the oil in the filter.
I do not think any garage would take the chance of just changing the oil filter ONLY Paddy for the reason of claims, as said, the only oil you would loose is the oil within the filter. do you not have a friend that would change the oil for you for a tenner?
National do an oil and filter change from £22-50, but more likely to be around the £30 mark (dependant on vehicle model).

For the price, I cannot buy the oil & oil filter and do it myself.
Any garage can do it for that price Hymie, if you want cr@p oil + filter I dare not think What the result would be.
Personally I don’t think Castrol Magnatec Fully Synthetic oil (as supplied by National) - to be crap oil.
Just the filter contents.
At 5000 miles, it will be filtering the oil very effectively whether new or old oil.
Change the oil and then the filter as soon as you can.
