OK, so I have some fresh pesto which has a sellby date of 3rd July (ie 3 days ago) - is it safe to eat (probably) now? Don't want to get ill, as off camping this weekend with the kids! Thanks

I don't think any of the ingredients would make you ill...
It should be fine. If it smells ok and the colour is normal, no problem

As long as you haven't already opened it it should be OK. It would certainly smell nasty if it was rancid. Shops tend to err on the side of caution with their sell by dates.
I'm with all of the above. I used some recently which was much further past its sell by than that and I am still here.
Sell by dates are a commercial con.
