He's due at the hospital at 8am on 26th July, general anaesthetic (sp)
Hats off to the NHS, a quick appointment, reduced waiting time. (He was told in the middle of June he'd need an op)
The hospital he needs to go to is about 1 1/2 hours away, oh the joy. He isn't eligible I presume for any hospital transport, and it's a taxi fare. (Ok)
Do you think a local taxi from home to hospital and a taxi from that locale to back home? Or just him and me go in one taxi and I hand about for ages and go back with him?
It would depend on how long the operation and recovery time takes. It costs us about £10-15 in a taxi to our local hospital (about 30 mins away) so it will cost you a fortune if you come home again and go back later. It's a pity you can't get a friend to help you out there. We have a free bus service but it's a bit of a walk to the bus stops.
I know AYG, he's day surgery but needs a responsible adult to collect him (who is kidding who, married to him for 24 years and they need a responsible adult lol)
He's thinking we both go in the one taxi and I'm there for getting him back again rather than multiple taxi journeys.
Thank you, x It's nice to have an independant confirmation xx
Have you applied for hospital transport? He might be. He will have to call and speak to them.
And yes, if it's cheaper, hang about for ages and go back with him. Sorry if that sounds unsympathetic but I don't really see what the big deal is. Do you have children that need looking after?
I don't mind the taxi fare too much (ok that's a fib) I'll find out what they can offer (if anything) then. They are a very helpful lot (receptionists who can point a person in the right direction, they get a bad press, and shouldn't)
I hope that your OH is eligible for the free hospital taxi service, however, we have used this in the past and they only allow the patient in the car, no family, as they are often picking up more than one patient per trip.
in most areas there is volunteer car schemes. you still have to pay but much cheaper than a taxi. Google "volunteer transport xxxx" where xxxx= your local area.
Otherwise, you'd better check at the other end there will be somewhere for you to wait -some units don't have anywhere
