Windows xp installation

I have just intalled Winows XP onto my Pc to replace Windows 98. But rather than overwirte 98 I know have both systems running, but none of my old programs and files have transferred across to XP. Any suggestions on how to transfer tham over and remove 98 ?

Assuming you have a CD/DVD writer, the best way is to save all your important files, e-mails, favourites etc onto a CD or DVD from Windows 98. A full re-formatting of your hard drive & a clean installation of Windows XP will provide you with a much better base to start off with. I normally do a clean install every few months to clear out any rubbish that accumulates.

When you start your computer do you get an option to start Windows 98 OR Windows XP, or does it go straight into XP ?

If you get the choice to go into 98 OR XP then you have installed XP alongside 98 rather than over the top of it.

That is why none of your programs and files have moved across.

Yes, you can't just copy your programs over and have them work.

Copy over your personal documents like pictures, letters etc. onto a flash drive, CD or DVD. Re-format, with just winXP on (get rid of win98), copy your personal information across, and install all your programs again from the CDs you have.

Note: if your PC is old enough to have come with win98, is it fast enough to properly cope with winXP? Usually it'll make the computer very sluggish: if you happen to have a copy, I'd recommend using win2000 instead of winXP.

Is there an easy way that i can remove the new XP from my computer and start over all again so the XP can be reloaded on all fresh (again) and work with my existing files?

copy all your personal files to CD or somewhere; format the hard drive and re-install XP from scratch.
