It is totally beyond my understanding how some people can be so cruel ......you see and hear so much now about the truly awful thing s that happen to animals (and children too)......why do they do it? What type of mentality thinks that it's fun to go and kick a kitten to death............tie a dog to a tree and set fire to it - both fairly recent cases. I saw somebody in a drama on TV recently, where he was hung, drawn and quartered - I didn't realise up to that point that quartering was done whilst the person was still alive ......that's what I feel like doing to people, no, SCUM who hurt animals.
That poor, poor animal, but sadly it's the tip of the iceberg, you hear about these things on a regular basis and there will always be people who think it OK to inflict terrble pain on innocent creatures. Have you heard on the news today about the soldier who dragged a baby rabbit around a pub by its ears, trying to sell it and in the process stuffed cigs in its mouth and tried to set fire to it, eventually breaking its back and neck? He's been sentenced to 22 weeks in prison, some sort of justice I suppose! If I had been in that pub I would have tried with all my might to get it off him, wish I had been there.
By anyone's definition of 'properly' there are some folk whose mind doesn't work 'properly'. There's rarely a reason that seems to justify the act, it's just the way of an imperfect world and imperfect beings. Seems to me that anyone who will inflict that level of cruelty, even to a different species, is probably too great a risk to be allowed to walk free in society.
