Had a mammogram the other day and got talking to other ladies waiting and we debated whether it's easier to have a mammogran or a smear test. Mammogram for me every time !!!
Sorry gents not one for you ....
never had a mammogram but my older female relatives said it hurt like hell.... dont mind having smears...ive had so many cos of abnormal results, and then colposcopy and treatment that it just doesnt bother me anymore
ladybirder you should go for a smear.... my cousin died in her early 30's of cancer.... started off as cervical cancer, by the time she felt unwell and got checked and started treatment she developed secondary cancer in her stomach ( i think) after that it went through her like wildfire.... she ended up with cancer in her liver and brain.....
Jeez saffy, was that meant to put the wind up ladybird, cos I bet it has!!
Seriously, I absolutely agree with you. All women should have regular smears & mammograms, particularly smears. And that is a very sad story about your cousin.
I don't find mammograms painful as such, it's the poitions that one has to get into, they are so unnatural and the corner of the plate digs into my stomach and that is annoying!
Having had a colposcopy at 21 I had to undergo smears every year for 10 years. The last one I had was agony as the nurse said, "Oh dear, your uterus is tilted backwards. Just hold still while I drag it back in line!"
aww i didnt mean to scare her to death salla, just wanted to say how important it is..... it gets even sadder, she didnt live in this country and her parents brought her over here to be buried.... her kids will very likely never be able to visit her grave until they are grown up and can come over :(
Sorry for the intrusion girls,I've just googled Colposcopy Bloody 'ell why does it have to be like this from painful menstruation through invasive investigations having babies horrible menopause problems. I'm sorry to say this God but I think there's a serious fault in design here. From one genuinely concerned male.Ron.♥♥♥ (to all)
Thanks Ron, we do have to put up with a lot. I've had smears, mammograms and a d & c. I found smears the most painful and mammograms just uncomfortable. But yes, they are necessary. I had a lovely friend at work some years ago who died of cervical cancer at 30. She'd never had a smear. Still, apart from all that it's nice being a woman! Thanks for all your answers guys.
