I have an essay to write on the subject of how ancient Rome and Greece have influenced modern Europe. I have some rough ideas of different things that can be traced back to the ancient times but was wondering if anyone has any information they can give me? Doesn't even have to be very detailed just ideas, every little helps :) the exact essay question is...

"What features of modern Europe have been traced back to Ancient Greece and Rome and are such comparisons justified?"

Thank you.

Well Christianity was relatively unexceptional until Constantine picked it up and ran with it.

It was fairly fractured with groups like the Gnostics and others all going their seperate ways.

The definition of the Bible, what books were in what was out took place under the Romans.

The Vatican isn't slap in the middle of Rome by accident

It's origins weren't Roman but I think I'd argue that today's Cristianity is a very Roman invention.
that as may be if you insist in the caveat 'todays christianity', but christianity (as it was) was banned by the romans for about 300 years before they decided it was probably a good idea to legitamise and control it.
