I've been to see a consultant this morning who informed me that I have a slipped disc and refered me back to my GP for steriod injections. Has anyone had this treatment and how long do they last?

It all depends on the person and the situation. My husband had two, the first lasted a few weeks, the second didn't work at all, but I've heard of them working for months on some people
My Mother has these for a frozen shoulder. She has them every few months.
I had them and they never worked at all.

I had one (day-surgery department at the hospital rather than GP)......it provided me with about 18 months of relief but it didn't completely alleviate the pain.

It hurt like a ba$***, though..........
