what to do if someone spends hrs doing a job for you and you don't like the results?...

My boyfriend during the past few months has spent a lot of time on my garden and it has been looking lovely. but just this week he has done a couple of things that I really dislike and suddenly the garden doesn't have the same easy on the eye natural look about it and it really bothers me especially as the garden had been looking so nice. I would even go as far to say I hate what he has done. :O(
Now I'm not one for keeping my feelings to myself but I'm really aware that if I say anything it will seem ungrateful and he's not going to appreciate it. He spent hours doing these jobs this week. Although I've paid for the materials and would happily pay again to redo it but I don't know how to broach it.
I'm thinking i may have to live with it and maybe suggest a change next year.
Any suggestions?...
ps i know this is really trivial in the scheme of things but it is really bothering me.
