I've been having a problem with my email which resulted in me talking to a BT technician who sorted the problem (mostly!) he took over 'remote control' of my screen to fix it. However, now, instead of the usual web page when I click on IE, I'm getting a MSN one with 'Bing' search engine. How can I change it back to IE - thank you+

You can change your home page to anything you like, simply by going to the page of your choice.

With that page displayed, go to Tools > Internet Options.
The 'General' tab will probably be pre-selected. If not, click on it.

Under 'Home Page' click 'Use Current'.
Click 'Apply' and 'OK'.

Chris

PS: You don't need to have ANY home page. My own choice would be to select 'Use blank'

have just clicked in my IE icon and I get this other silly page
Did you actually go the page you want to see before clicking on the tools menu?

Are you sure that you clicked 'Apply' before OK? Once you've done that (after clicking on 'Use Current'), whatever page was displayed at the time should become your home page.

Follow the instructions again, the immediately close Internet Explorer. (That might help to persuade it to save the setting). Then open it to see which page is displayed.

However I'm amazed that you're actually using Internet Explorer. Hardly any of the regular users of AB do so. Most of us use Firefox (which is about a zillion times better):
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/
PS: Bing is Microsoft's own search engine, so it's unsurprising that (unless you choose otherwise) Microsoft's browser should have it as its home page
Maybe a slight confusion. The home page is the actual PAGE that opens first in the browser. The program that opens is a BROWSER called internet Explorer, the two are different things.

That's because your IE icon is now associated with the wrong program, I think.
Try to right-click on the IE icon and go to 'open with' and choose Internet Explorer. If Internet Explorer is not listed go to the bottom where it should say 'other programs', that will open another list that contains IE. Always remember to to click apply and OK when making a change on the comp.

HOp ethis helps.

If the internet Explorer comes up with a different home page, follow Chris' advice.
Sorry Chris. Didn't know you were still around. I must learn to type faster :-)
