Going to Portugal in September...What's best--taking Sterling or euro's? I'm thinking that if the bottom drops out of the euro market then they will be virtually worthless, and everyone wil want paying in Sterling, Dollars or Gold??(I haven't got a lot of gold).

If you brought sterling you'd have to change it somewhere.. Euros and your credit card, I'd say.
Euros.

Portugal is not as cosmopolitan as a lot of European countries, and not many places will accept "foreign" currency.
Insist on German Euros ;-)
Euros......the Euro is at last falling against pound sterling and will continue (in my opinion to fall).......buy Euros at the end of August.
EURO's doesn't need an apostrophe. It's a plural noun. Unless the EURO owns something, then it would be the EURO's.

Gollysailor I consider myself rebuke'd ! In future I shall use only euros,...Thank's everyone for your contribution....Joh'n !
Nope - you can't use Euros - the plural is Euro. (unless you're writing a document for the plebs in which case we're not educated enough to recognise that the plural of fish is...fish.)

Also say you will need Euro, very few places outside the UK will exchange Strling for anything other than 1:1 and there's no chance the Euro will fail.
The plural of fish is fishies, Everybody knows that!
If your instinct is to speculate on currency trends and you are prepared to back it then go ahead - your guess is just as likely to be correct as the next punter's - just don't complain if/when you are proved wrong. Otherwise use your plastic, debit or credit, it is widely accepted.
If you're talking about fish of the same species then the plural is fish, but in general the plural is fishes.
Surely the plural of fish is fishes -------- Bible, Mark 6:41, five loaves and two fishes.
