spam e mails, what happens next?
fourth e mail in two days, all marked now as spam, they lead to some site on viagra or some such rubbish, don't know where they come from, don't open the links now, so they sit in e mail spam category, do you just delete them afterwards?

I get 30 to 40 a day - they go straight into the SPAM folder and are automaticall y deleted after 30 days.
I check through them a couple of times per week to check there is no emails that have been sent there by accident.

I use Virgin webmail and they do it all for me - which is just as well as I am totally lost with all the technical stuff.
I am sure one of the techy guys will give you a long and helpful (but confusing) answer to the security question but I had kaspersky virus stuff loaded at one time and it was good. It isn't cheap though.
I am using the free AVG software just now.
I don't think that understanding computers is more a guy thing - most people that I know who are good with computers are male.
;-)

I don't think it's a security issue. possible causes are:
- you responded to something online- maybe a survey- and your email address was then passed on to spammers who in turn pass it on
-your email address has been printedon a forum
- your email addrss is easily guessable or one that be geneerated easily -eg [email protected]
- one of your friends has had a virus that has harvested email addresses from his/her address book
One thing you could do is change your email address or use a disposable email address for anyone you don't know well. But once you get on spammers' lists you'll continue to get more and more spam

em10 we all get them - each time a new one gets into my in box I mark it as spam before moving it to the spam folder (without opening it) therefore next time I get one from the same sender it goes straight into that folder and not my in box. It may be worth checking what settings your spam filter is on. Don't worry about them though, just don't open um!
