Japanese Maple is a very easy tree to maintain. It is very adaptable to most soil types although prefers rich moist soil with some shade. If grown in a tub it prefers uniform watering, whether small or large amounts. Usually grows to between 6 and 10 feet high, although some can grow to 25 ft. For loads of info just Google search for "japanese maple care".
Some Acers are more frost tolerant then others - when they are budding you may need to protect them in hard frosts (check name against a plant database). Plus some can get wind burn so make sure they are not too exposed!
