Happy and Non News Aware

I used to work with a chap who said he never watched or read the news , because it was depressing and he was not interested in most of it.
I was thinking , what would life be like in a news / current events free bubble ?
Would not know anything about the Hacking going on's - Missed the feeling of disgust ...rage at police taking money - people being laid off at News Of World (innocent ones).
Euro crisis - Worry of how it will effect way of life - job - money etc
The murder of patients in hospital - Disgust ... Nurse all over press ...seems she has been found guilty by press already ...
Just spend my days thinking about shiny things and in the apple store
Would life be less full ?

a) switched supplier before the rise
b) found nearest post ofice and made prior arrangements
c) changed bank, or found next nearest atm
d) scarpered
i suggest that to panic after the event is far less healthy than panicking at the warning signs, and then taking steps to deal with it when it happens. fail to prepare, prepare to fail an'all that jazz.

I think most of us would take notice if something was of particular interest to us or something amazing like the Chilean miners - I too stayed up to watch the rescues. But the hacking scandal etc - I just switch off (mentally that is, the telly is usually on in the background). I get most of my news snippets from the home page of Yahoo when I check my emails. The economy, politics, etc don't hold my attention other than the headlines although I have stayed up to watch election results on occasions. The current flooding of the news/papers with the hacking scandal leaves me cold - come on, do we really think this will stop and that the Murdochs are the only ones who did it? Get real.
*heres me thinking we were talking News :-( *
*I personally think it good manners to include people I sit with , in conversation *
ah i thought by your 2nd comment you meant conversation in general...my bad... so you include people if its a news topic/discussion etc and change the subject if they didnt get it, but not in general conversation?

I don't find the news to be depressing, and it doesn't make me worry.
I believe the approach is to assess the truthful elements of the news, and try and filter out the facts from the comment and observation. Virtually all media - probably the BBC is the least biased, in spite of shouts to the contrary - has a 'spin' on the basis of the audience to whom they wish to appeal, so you need to be able to work around that.
Sadly, most 'news' is bad, that's human nature, but again, you can filter out the parts you want, and disgard the rest.
In fact, that filtering process happens to us all the time every day. we are bombarded by adverts, which i consider to be far more insidious than the news - and we naturally filter out the ones that don't appeal, so the mechanism is certainly there, you just need to tune it into the reality of the world around you.
i think to not know what is going on around is, by definition, to be uninformed, and lack of information makes choices difficult, and choicec is what we need more, not less of in our modern world.

A bit late Ankou because I have been out but
I said
"Well what would they have done differently if they had known about any of those events previously Ankou. Probably just sat and worried about it, because people that don't worry about things don't usually plan either. ;o) "
So your suggestions wouldn't apply. People who worry would do what you have suggested, but not people who don't.
If you get my meaning!! ;o)
