Electrical query no 1 - I've broken the light!

We have a fancy dangly light in the kitchen over the table that takes those really tiny bulbs. I stupidly put a higher voltage in by mistake when replacing about 3 of the bulbs and for a while it used to flicker and have a delay when you turned it on and now it doesnt work at all. Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to get it fixed? Dont know any electricians really.

Are you saying you replaced old bulbs with ones rated at a higher voltage than those which should have been used?

Yes I am! Didnt bloody realise, think they should have been 10v and I used 40v whoops!

If that is all you did this should not obviously have caused anything to fail. Can you post the make and model of the light fitting.

Do you Wattage, not Voltage? Sticking 40W bulbs instead of 10W ones will have knackered the transformer driving them. Little chance of a repair - time for the bin!

I dont think they have the exact light anymore (and have no idea how to do a link, sorry) it was from B&Q part of their posh range but we bought it around 5-6 yrs ago.
Yes I did mean wattage lol.

LCDMan got there before me about Watts rather than Volts.
If it did not die instantly but lingered a bit then it is likely that something has burnt out. Unless you are very fond of it I would bin it and get something new.
