USB , or not to be ?

 Can anyone tell me how to check if my USB ports are working.   (Windows XP. / sp2) Thankyou kindly !

Right-click on My Computer then choose Hardware then Device Manager (or use Control Panel then System and Device Manager). DELETE or uninstall any USB entries (yes!). Now restart the computer and let Windows find the USB connections (especially after installing SP2). Plug something into one of the ports and get it working (hopefully). Hope this helps.

Sounds realy scarey but I'm going for it

........ but just a moment, I did plug an mp3 player in there and it lit up !  Is that enough indication to say they're working, I wonder ?

If you plug in a MP3 player and it lights up then windows should be detecting it and it should appear in my computer as an additional drive or device.

Once your mp3 player is recognised, try dragging some mp3 files to it and then play them. Then you'll know that it has worked!
